The History of the Horsepower Challenge

Today we will see the return of the Great Dubai Race – now in its 3rd year, one of the UAE’s glitziest events in the social calendar. The Horsepower Challenge pulls together some of the most exclusive luxury brands in the UAE to battle it out in the saddle in front of the crème de la crème of Dubai society.

The Horsepower Challenge was established May 2006 and included everything that represents luxury and lifestyle across the UAE. The concept was designed to highlight the sheer privileges and opportunities that an expat lifestyle offers which is in stark contrast to the lives of the children suffering the Autism condition.

The concept of the event revolves around 4 polo teams made up of first season beginners from the Dubai Polo Academy. Submerged in an environment of luxury and sophistication the four teams compete in a race that involves timed sections utilizing horsepower of the highest degree, including super cars, powerboats and polo. Having battled it out in each timed section, teams return to the Dubai Polo & Equestrian club for the final leg of the challenge.

As part of the day’s entertainment the inaugural “Battle of the Sexes” polo match between an all girls v’s all boys team will be the first of the two main matches scheduled for the afternoon. Following which and as a finale to the day’s event an exhibition polo match, contested by professional polo players, will be staged on the manicured grounds of the Polo Club to a record number of A-list spectators. In true polo style both teams will make a spectacular entrance by helicopter ready to entertain with a high adrenalin fuelled polo action as they make history in the UAE.
